A dizzying hike above the river: bring good shoes.
The Chassezac, a tributary of the Ardèche, flows a few kilometres from Le Mas g'Ardéchois. You can kayak on it, and hike too. The gorges through the Bois de Païolive are spectacular. A superb walk of 6 or 15 km, but not for the faint-hearted: you mustn't be afraid of heights, you need good shoes and a walking stick, and you should take the time to admire the Chassezac far below your feet… with no railing.
RandoAix describes it as "a 15 km double loop with 600 m of climbing through the Bois de Païolive, an astonishing 16 km² forest of petrified limestone rocks in all shapes, mixed with white and holm oaks."
Our photos: one of the most vertiginous hikes we've done in the area.
