A medieval hilltop village to explore on foot along its cobbled lanes.
Very close to Le Mas g'Ardéchois, this lovely village was featured in the Dauphiné's spring-summer 2024 magazine "Émerveillés par l'Ardèche". From Les Vans, follow the little winding road and leave your car in the car park. Continue on foot or by bike to the top of the hill and you enter a medieval village of remarkable beauty. Sing in the church, walk round the huge castle tower and take the Naves geo-trail, which leads to a stunning view over the Les Vans valley. On your way back through the lanes, look out for the little box of fresh eggs hanging in the street: take your eggs, leave your coins in the box, and go back to the house to make the best omelette in the world.
"From the dawn of time, when the mountains rose, through the geological eras that shaped the land, to the cobbled lanes laid out by people in this landscape, the village of Naves is both witness to and messenger of a history counted in hundreds of millions of years."
Guided tours of the village from 1 July to 21 September, 12 km from Le Mas g'Ardéchois.
