A thousand varieties of bamboo, Japanese gardens… and the little Anduze steam train.
Not to be missed! 42 km from Le Mas g'Ardéchois. You can drive there, or take the little steam train from Anduze, which chugs through the Cévennes. Everyone talks about the bamboo, but there's much more: Japanese gardens, giant flowers, bonsai, water plants and more. There's also a large restaurant.
From the web: "La Bambouseraie en Cévennes, also known as the Bambouseraie d'Anduze, is a botanical garden in Générargues, France. It is the largest bamboo garden in Europe, covering 34 hectares.
The garden was founded in 1856 by Eugène Mazel, who fell in love with bamboo on a trip to Asia and began collecting it from all over the world.
Today the garden is home to hundreds of varieties of bamboo, divided into several sections, with ponds, waterfalls and a Japanese tea garden.
Visitors can take a guided tour or explore at their own pace. The garden is open from March to November.
Highlights include
Giant bamboo: some varieties reach 25 metres in height.
The maze, made of tall bamboo hedges.
The children's play area, with bamboo structures to climb and explore."
